About the game
What you do in a play session
Sheep & Thief is a quick, light game for 2‑4 players, perfect for fans of tactical choices and a dash of chaos. Each round starts with a small deck of cards containing sheep, dogs and thieves. You perform a closed draft: you pick cards from your hand without seeing what opponents will take, instantly adding suspense. When you play a sheep card, the animal wanders onto the board until it finds an empty space; if you have a dog card, you can herd the sheep into a pen where they become safe. Then the thief appears: playing its card moves the thief toward the flock, and if it bumps into a sheep, it steals it. This is where the push‑your‑luck element shines – you can hold the thief waiting for the perfect moment, but waiting too long may cost you the chance to stop a theft. The take‑that mechanic also shows up, as the thief can disrupt an opponent’s plan by snatching their sheep. The board is built from tile placement, creating pastures and pathways that affect where sheep can roam and where thieves can reach. The goal is simply to have more protected sheep in your pens than your rival. A typical game lasts about 30 minutes, allowing several rounds in one gaming night. The artwork is cute and colorful, and the animal meeples are delightfully charming. Despite its simplicity, the game offers plenty of replay value because the mix of drafting, risk and blocking creates fresh situations each time. If you enjoy board games that blend light strategy, humor and a hint of betrayal, Sheep & Thief makes a solid addition to your collection.
