About the game
In early 18th-century Northwest India, the Grand Mogul empire is waning, paving the way for ambitious Maharishis and princes to seize control of the region. In Taj Mahal, your goal is to be the most influential prince by constructing magnificent palaces, securing commodity supplies, and gaining the support of powerful figures like the Vizier, General, Monk, Princess, and Grand Mogul. The game unfolds over twelve rounds, each featuring an exciting auction for regional control and the influence of key characters, represented by distinct symbols. Players use cards of four colors to place their bids, but with a twist: each turn, you can only use cards of a single color. During your turn, you can either increase your bid with more cards or, if you prefer, withdraw from the auction. Upon withdrawing, you collect rewards for all symbols where you hold the majority, place your palaces, acquire region tiles, and accumulate points. There are also bonus points for connecting your palaces across multiple regions on the map. The 2018 Fantasy Flight Games edition introduced rules for 2 players, which can be applied to any version of the game using only the existing components. At the end of the final auction, the prince with the highest total score is crowned the winner.
