In Targui, you take on the role of a tribal leader aiming to dominate the valuable desert grounds, all while protecting your home village! The key to victory lies in strategically moving groups of camels through different desert terrains, leveraging each one's unique characteristics to expand your control and wealth. The board is constructed from large square tiles, each representing a type of desert terrain, with economic and strategic values ranging from 0 to 5. At the center, a salt mine is a crucial point of contention. The random distribution of these tiles ensures a different map every game, which is great for replayability! Each player starts with a village tile on an outer edge of the board, some camels, and money. Your turn is straightforward: move your camels and buy more, expanding your dominion over the land. Despite its simple mechanics, Targui is a light wargame that shines in player interaction. The random turn order creates a dynamic environment of rapidly shifting alliances, making every decision a tense moment. The winner isn't the one with the most money or camels, but rather the one who controls the highest economic value at the end. It plays nicely with 3 or 4 players, but be aware: the game can be long. A full game with all fortune cards can last over three hours, so it might be wise to adjust the number of rounds if you're looking for a quicker experience.
