Two dice with opposite jobs

Nemesis uses two kinds of roll serving different purposes. Combat dice resolve direct confrontation with the Intruders. The noise die, a D10, is what generates tension outside combat: it indicates which corridor a noise is detected in, and noise is what draws Intruders.

The practical consequence is that the noise die carries more weight in the game than the combat dice. A bad run of noise rolls can fill the ship with Intruders without a single shot being fired.

So it is worth rolling both in the tool without mixing them: they are different decisions at the table, with different consequences for the rest of the crew.

Frequently Asked Questions

4 questions
How does the Noise Roll work in Nemesis?
When moving into an empty room, roll the D10 noise die. Numbers 1-4 place noise in the corresponding corridor. If that corridor already has noise, an Intruder encounters and attacks immediately.
What do Silence and Danger results mean?
Silence means no noise is placed. Danger places noise on all connected corridors around the room.
What is the D10 noise die for?
It indicates which adjacent corridor a noise is detected in, or whether the result is silence or danger. It is the main driver of Intruder appearances outside combat.
Can you avoid rolling the noise die?
More cautious movement and actions reduce how often checks happen, but the die is central to the game's pacing and cannot be removed entirely.
