About the game
What you do in a play session
In Tricky Badger, you step into the role of a conservationist tasked with protecting the rare European wild hamsters from their arch-nemesis: the badger! This card game cleverly blends set collection with the classic trick-taking mechanic, all wrapped up in a quick and accessible package. Over five rounds, players compete to collect objective cards that offer points in various ways. Each round kicks off with nine cards in hand and ten face-up collection cards available. The active player chooses which collection card the trick winner will claim, determining whether the highest or lowest card wins the trick. The trick-taking gameplay requires players to follow suit if possible, but beware of cards that 'trample' others, removing them from contention. The trump suit can shake things up! After nine tricks, the round ends, new collection cards are revealed, and the game continues. The final scoring is where the fun (and danger!) truly begins. Connecting male and female hamsters yields bonus points, but having too many of the same gender can lead to conflict. And the badger? It can devour your entire collection if you don't appease it with a bone! There are also bonus opportunities with wheat and weevils, but watch out, as weevils can eat your wheat. Magpies might steal your cards, but cages and buckets can protect your critters. Whoever best manages their collection and navigates the animal hazards will be the ultimate winner!
