About the game

What you do in a play session

Vikings on Board is that kind of game that mixes light strategy with a healthy dose of interaction (and a bit of mischief, of course!). Here, you're not just trying to be the best Viking, but ensuring the ships sailing out are loaded with exactly what you need. The board is a highlight, featuring 3D ships that you assemble and manipulate throughout the game. The main goal is simple: control who runs each ship when it sets sail. To do this, you use your workers to perform actions like adding supplies, moving ship parts, or placing strategic bets on which clan will dominate each vessel.

The action queue mechanic is the heart of the game. You need to decide whether to secure good cargo or invest in bets to profit from others' success. It's a constant tug-of-war: as you move ship parts, you might end up helping an opponent or ruining someone else's plan. When a ship finally sails, scoring is divided based on who has the most shields on that ship. The majority holder picks their supplies first, which will be worth points based on the current market value. And don't forget the bets! If you correctly predicted who would control the ship, that turns into precious points at the end.

The experience is very timing-focused. The game ends after seven ships depart, so every turn counts. It's an excellent title for those who enjoy family games that aren't overly complex but require you to pay close attention to what others are doing. Interaction is high, and the 'I'm moving this ship right now just so you can't score' vibe is what makes the table buzz. With a weight of 2.12, it's perfect for a group that enjoys medium-weight games with beautiful components and a dynamic that flows quickly without stalling the brain, while keeping competitiveness high. If you enjoy strategy games where bluffing and positioning are key, Vikings on Board will have a special place on your shelf.
