About the game
In Village: Big Box, you take on the role of a family seeking to prosper and leave their legacy in a medieval village. Life there isn't easy, but it offers various opportunities for each family member to forge their own path: one might become a friar, another might pursue politics, and a third might venture into distant lands. Time is relentless, and the only way to ensure your family's immortality is by being remembered in the village chronicles.

The core mechanic is worker placement where, each turn, you take a cube from a board area and perform the corresponding action. These areas include a market, travel locations, crafting workshops, the church, and the council house. Each location has different colored cubes, and some black cubes can bring curses. Actions vary: you can produce resources like oxen and horses, convert wheat into gold, or even pursue short, medium, or long-term scoring. The round ends when all cubes are taken, and the game concludes when the village chronicle or the graveyard is full.

The Big Box edition is a complete package, bringing together the Village base game, the Inn and Port expansions, all previously released promo packs, and a new 'Marriage' expansion. Furthermore, the game now features a solo mode, a larger double-sided main board, and dual-layered player boards, optimizing the experience and organization. It's a medium-heavy game, ideal for those who enjoy planning and watching their family grow and make their mark.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the average playtime for 5 players?
The playtime can vary significantly, but expect around 2 to 2.5 hours for 5 players, especially if it's your first time playing.
Is the game too complicated for board game beginners?
Village has a medium-heavy complexity rating (3.13/5 on BGG). The core cube-drafting mechanic is simple, but the strategies and time management aspects might require a few plays to master.
What does the Big Box include that the base game doesn't?
The Big Box includes the Village base game, the Inn and Port expansions, all previously released promo packs, and a new expansion called 'Marriage'. Additionally, it features a larger main board, dual-layered player boards, and a solo mode.
Can I play Village solo?
Yes! The Big Box edition comes with a dedicated solo mode, allowing you to enjoy the game even without other players.
Is the theme of villagers 'dying' too heavy?
The mechanic where villagers disappear over time is more of a way to manage the passage of generations and the family's legacy. It's not depicted graphically or grimly, but rather as a strategic element of the game.
Does the game have a lot of player interaction?
Interaction is indirect, focusing on competition for actions on the board (worker placement) and racing for objectives. There's no direct combat or excessive 'take that', the focus is on your own planning.
