About the game
In Wakanda, two players race to build the most valuable totems in an African tribal setting. Each game starts with players receiving three headdresses and six totem pieces – one eagle, two chiefs, three tomahawks, four animal skins, five teepees, and six suns. The pieces are drawn from a bag, and on each turn a player chooses whether to place a piece on one of the six available village tiles or to place a headdress on an existing totem to claim it. When a headdress is placed, the player gains control of that totem and the next tile in line becomes available for future use.

The village tiles are the heart of the game. Eight tiles exist, but only six are active; three are tilted out of play. Each tile carries a unique scoring rule, and the rule applies to all of a player’s totems once they acquire the tile. Thus, choosing which tile to capture determines how the entire collection will be scored. For example, a tile might award 3 points per animal skin on all totems, while another might grant 2 points per piece on the tallest totem.

The “Push Your Luck” mechanic comes into play when a player decides to place a headdress on an already occupied totem. They risk losing the piece if another player has claimed it, but if successful they gain control of the totem and the tile’s rule becomes theirs. The “Set Collection” element is evident in the need to gather pieces of the same type to maximize the scoring of each tile.

When all pieces have been claimed, players tally points according to the rules of the tiles they captured. The game is fast, with each turn taking only a few seconds, and a full game typically ends in about 15 minutes. Wakanda blends speed, light strategy, and a vibrant theme, making it perfect for anyone looking for a quick totem showdown in just a few minutes.
