About the game
In Warsaw: City of Ruins, you take on the role of an urban planner tasked with rebuilding the Polish capital after the devastations of World War II. The game spans six historical epochs, from the late 16th century to the present day, allowing players to witness and shape the city's evolution. Each player is responsible for developing their own district, choosing and placing tiles that represent different types of buildings: from historical edifices and interwar architecture to socialist blocks and modern skyscrapers. The core mechanic revolves around a closed tile draft, where you select an option and then decide whether to discard it for money or build it in your district by paying its cost. Building over existing tiles can reduce the cost, but managing space is crucial, as your district cannot exceed a 3x4 or 4x3 rectangle of tiles. At the end of each epoch, districts generate income and victory points, reflecting the success of your planning. Tension escalates with wars occurring at the end of epochs 3 and 4, adding an element of unpredictability. With gameplay that combines pattern building, tile placement, and simultaneous action selection, Warsaw: City of Ruins offers an engaging strategic experience. The ultimate goal is to accumulate the most points after six epochs, demonstrating who best understood and rebuilt Warsaw's resilience.
