About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever wanted to build a legendary empire without needing a massive table and ten hours of your life? Age of Civilization delivers the full civilization-building experience in a compact and agile format. Instead of sticking to one people, you can lead up to three different historical civilizations in a single session, merging their abilities to forge a unique legacy.

The game unfolds over six intense rounds. The core dynamic revolves around worker placement: you assign your pawns to action slots to research technologies, construct wonders, trade, or expand your military and cultural strength. The real strategic twist lies in population management. At the start, your chosen civilization determines your initial workforce. Later, you can decide to annex or replace your current civilization with a new one.

This transition is the game's most critical strategic decision. When you switch civilizations, you reset your worker count to the new civilization's population and lose the previous one's main ability. However, the legacy abilities from all your past civilizations stay with you forever. It's essentially like building a historical 'combo,' deciding exactly when to migrate to a new era to maximize your victory points.

With a medium weight, the game is accessible for newcomers to the genre while offering enough depth for those who love optimizing every single move. Whether you're pushing your people to the limit to accelerate construction or investing heavily in culture, the goal is clear: have the highest score by the end of the sixth round. It's the depth of a classic empire-builder condensed into a fast-paced package full of meaningful choices.
