About the game

What you do in a play session

Long before sages clashed in arenas, Aldr, the first High Sage, mastered the four elements and handed his wisdom to his pupils. Realizing even the mightiest need mental training, he designed a card game that serves as a strategic dojo. Each round starts with an open draft: everyone sees the pool of cards and picks the ones that fit their plan. The goal is to assemble four elemental patterns—fire, water, earth, and air—using layering, melding and splaying mechanics. You place cards on the board like mosaic pieces, trying to block opponents' paths while advancing your own set. The sages you position act as area‑control pieces, limiting rivals' options, and Aldr himself can be moved to further disrupt them. The first player to place all four of their sages on the correct patterns claims victory. A quick 20‑45 minute playtime and a 2‑4 player range make it perfect for both intense duels and small group sessions. Although a standalone title, the rules include an optional module to use ALDR as an expansion for the game Element!, boosting replay value. If you love sleek abstractions, real‑time tactical decisions, and a dash of rock‑paper‑scissors to settle clashes, ALDR: The High Sage delivers all that in a compact, eye‑catching package.
