About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever wondered what happens when you blend a classic trick-taking game with the dynamics of Rock-Paper-Scissors? That's exactly what Band of Tricks delivers, resulting in a truly intriguing mental puzzle. The game features four suits with asymmetric values—for instance, one suit might range from 1 to 13, while another goes from 10 to 16. The magic lies in their interaction: three of the suits follow the RPS logic (Rock beats Scissors, Scissors beat Paper, Paper beats Rock). However, there's a twist: this rule only applies if the trick consists of two suits or fewer. Once a third different suit is played, the RPS logic is discarded, and the highest numerical value wins the trick. Then there's the fourth suit, the 'heavy hitter' with the highest ranks, which can only win if the trick contains three or more suits. The most tense part is the initial bidding. Before the hand starts, you must predict exactly how many tricks you will win with each suit. Hit your bid perfectly? You score points. Miss it by one or more? You lose points proportionally. It's the kind of game where you try to manipulate the table, forcing opponents to play suits that break the RPS logic and turn the round into a numbers game. It's a fast-paced experience with 30-minute sessions, but it requires constant attention to every card played to avoid ruining your own bid. If you enjoy card games that challenge your logic and demand tactical planning, this one is a perfect fit.
