In Brazil: Imperial, you step into the shoes of a powerful monarch, leading an expanding empire through a vast and opportunity-rich territory. The game challenges you to build, manage, and explore, all while defending against rivals and advancing through historical eras. Get ready to erect buildings, optimize resources, venture into unknown lands, and secure the support of influential historical figures. Oh, and of course, assembling a robust army to protect your interests is crucial!
The cool thing about Brazil: Imperial is its positioning as a 'Euro X', a clever blend of Eurogames (focused on resource gathering and management, with little luck) and 4X games (which throw you into exploration, expansion, resource exploitation, and, yes, extermination). The idea is to take the best of both worlds: the deep strategy and administration of Euros with the freedom of action and map exploration of 4X games, but with a softer touch on direct combat.
You start by choosing a monarch, each with unique abilities and a personal board that gives a different flavor to the game – some are combat beasts, others prefer science or exploration. The game unfolds on a modular map that recreates real regions of Brazil, ensuring each play-through is a new adventure. Each turn, you have an action phase, where you can build, recruit units, manufacture resources, or trade, and a movement phase, for exploration or even attacking. Completing missions leads you to new eras, unlocking more powerful constructions and victory points. In the end, whoever has the most prosperous empire and the most victory points earns the title of Emperor of Brazil!
