About the game

What you do in a play session

Clash of Giants II: 1st Ypres & Galicia 1914 is the sequel to Ted Raicer's acclaimed game, diving headfirst into two of the most intriguing and least-explored campaigns of World War I. Using the same core system as its predecessor, this title transports us to the battlefields of Galicia and Ypres, both in 1914, offering a wargame experience that truly keeps you on your toes. In Galicia 1914, you'll relive the brutal clash between the armies of Tsarist Russia and Austria-Hungary. General Conrad, the Austrian commander, launched an offensive before crucial reinforcements arrived, creating a scenario of highs and lows where numerical advantage shifted and the risk of annihilation was constant. In Ypres, the game explores the climax of the 'Race to the Sea' on the Western Front, a month of bloody fighting where both sides attempted to outflank the enemy, resulting in massive losses and the end of hopes for a swift conflict. The game system, an enhanced version of the original, emphasizes the difficulty of coordinating large army groups. Each army's movement is determined by a command roll, and the activation sequence is interactive and random, thanks to a chit-pull system. This means you never know which command will act next, adding a layer of suspense and difficult tactical decisions. Do you declare combat now, with only part of your forces positioned, or wait for more units, risking the enemy reorganizing or striking first? Combat itself is unique, with a 'Tactical Efficiency Rating' that considers training, equipment, and morale, often being more crucial than simple numerical superiority. With detailed maps and special rules for each campaign, such as the Przemysl fortress in Galicia or the Yser River floods in Ypres, Clash of Giants II offers a deep and engaging simulation for military history and wargame enthusiasts.
