About the game
Imagine yourself as a royal advisor in Ancient Egypt, serving under Pharaoh Amenemhet III. Your mission is to transform the Faiyum basin—a crocodile-infested swamp surrounded by desert—into a prosperous granary for the entire empire. To achieve this, you'll need to master ancient engineering, constructing canals, dikes, and settlements. However, there's a twist: since you're using the Pharaoh's resources, everything you build belongs to him. This means your opponents can freely use your roads and farms. What truly matters here isn't material ownership, but the respect and reputation you earn in the eyes of the Pharaoh.

At the core of the gameplay is a clever card management system. You play your cards one by one into a personal discard pile, and when you decide to retrieve your hand, they return in reverse order. This creates a strategic puzzle: the sequence in which you execute actions now determines how they will be available in the next cycle. Additionally, newly purchased cards go directly into your hand, requiring precise timing to avoid disrupting your game flow.

Faiyum blends the progression feel of a deck builder with a competitive market dynamic, reminiscent of the tension found in games like Power Grid. You'll need to assemble the perfect 'engine' of cards to optimize goods production and expansion across the hexagonal board. It is a pure planning game where cunning action combinations and efficient network building are the keys to becoming the most influential advisor in the court. If you enjoy games where sequencing decisions impact the future and you love seeing an empire (or rather, the Pharaoh's empire) grow, Faiyum is the perfect choice.
