Objective of the Game
In Heckmeck Deluxe, players compete to collect the most roasted worm portions (RWPs) by rolling dice and matching their totals to available RWPs on the worm grill. The game ends when no RWPs remain face-up on the grill. The player with the most worms (from RWPs, Bratworms, and the Apple) wins. In case of a tie, the player with the highest single RWP wins.
Preparation (Setup)
- Place the 18 RWPs in ascending order in the center of the table to form the worm grill.
- Place the Specialists on their starting RWPs:
- Canned worm on RWP 11
- Sitting hen on RWP 21
- Raven on RWP 23
- Weasel on RWP 25
- Golden die on RWP 27
- Apple on RWP 29
- Place the 7 Bratworms next to the grill.
- The youngest player starts with the 8 dice.
Game Flow
Players take turns in clockwise order. On your turn:
- Roll all 8 dice, then set aside all dice of one value (e.g., all 2s or all worms). Worms are worth 5 points each.
- Reroll the remaining dice and set aside all dice of a different value (you cannot reuse a previously chosen value).
- Continue rerolling and setting aside dice until you either:
- Finish voluntarily (with at least one worm set aside), or
- Cause a failed attempt (no valid dice to set aside or no worms collected).
Actions and How to Play
Finishing Voluntarily
If your dice total matches an RWP on the grill or another player’s visible stack, take it. If not, take the next lower available RWP (except 11 or 13). If you match another player’s visible RWP, steal it (unless it’s RWP 11 or 13).
Failed Attempt
Return the top RWP from your stack to the grill and flip the highest available RWP face-down (removing it from the game). If you have no RWP to return, flip nothing.
Specialists
- Apple: Counts as 3 worms at game end.
- Golden Die: Use as a 9th die.
- Canned Worm: Counts as a worm (5 points) if no dice worms are set aside.
- Weasel: Re-roll once per turn (lay it flat; reset after use).
- Sitting Hen: Protects your RWPs—other players steal it instead of your RWP. Return it to the grill if your attempt fails.
- Raven: Stays on the grill. Taking its RWP grants a Bratworm; relocate the raven afterward.
Bratworms
Earn a Bratworm by setting aside two 1s or taking the raven’s RWP. Each counts as 1 worm at game end.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when no RWPs remain face-up on the grill. Count:
- Worms from RWPs (visible stack only).
- Bratworms (1 worm each).
- +3 worms if you have the Apple.
The player with the most worms wins. Tiebreaker: highest single RWP.
Tips to Win
- Prioritize worms: Always aim to set aside at least one worm to avoid a failed attempt.
- Use Specialists wisely: The Golden Die and Weasel can boost your rolls, while the Sitting Hen protects your RWPs.
- Watch the grill: Steal high-value RWPs from opponents or target Specialists for extra advantages.
