About the game
What you do in a play session
Hula‑Hoo! gathers a worldwide cast of critters for a wildly unexpected hula‑hoop championship. Each animal tries to keep the hoop spinning as long as possible, represented by numbered cards ranging from low to high, plus jokers that can break sequences. Every player starts with ten cards: five in hand and five face‑up in front of them. On your turn you may play either one of the open cards or draw from your hand. The first player lays down any value and declares whether the next player must play a "higher" or "lower" card. The opponent can comply or "double" by playing the same number. Once a double is made, the rule flips: everyone must double as well, unless they break the double with a neighboring card (the next higher or lower number) or a joker. A player who cannot place a card drops out of the round, "drops their hoop" and scores no points. When only one player remains or someone empties their hand, the round winner receives points equal to the number of cards played in that round. The ultimate goal is to be the first to reach 77 points. The game is quick – 10 to 20 minutes – and supports 2 to 6 players, making it ideal for casual gatherings or as a warm‑up before a heavier session. Hand management is light, yet the tension of following the sequence versus risking a double creates fun, unpredictable moments. No boards or complex pieces, just colorful cards with playful animal art, keeping the box compact and travel‑friendly. If you enjoy fast‑paced card games with a dash of simple strategy and plenty of interaction, Hula‑Hoo! might be the perfect pick to liven up your table.
