About the game
What you do in a play session
In Khôra: Rise of an Empire each player takes the helm of a Greek polis during a period of rapid expansion. The game unfolds over nine rounds, and on each turn you pick two of seven possible actions – Philosophy, Legislation, Culture, Trade, Military, Politics, and Development – that will shape your city‑state’s destiny. Choices aren’t free; they must mesh with the outcome of your dice rolls, forcing you to constantly tweak your strategy. As you move up the Economy, Culture, and Military tracks, your markers unlock stronger benefits. Advancing on the Taxes Track yields coveted drachmas, the Troop Track lets you explore new lands and collect Knowledge tokens, and the Glory Track converts that knowledge into victory points. A set of achievements grants extra rewards for hitting specific goals. After the ninth round, the player with the most victory points claims the laurel crown. The game blends dice rolling, income generation, investment in tech, open drafting of actions, and a race for milestones, all resolved with simultaneous action selection to avoid turn‑order bias. With a light weight (2.75/5) and roughly 75‑minute playtime, it’s approachable for 2‑4 players, perfect for those who love historic themes without drowning in heavy rules. If you enjoy city building, strategic investment, and the pressure of a race for glory, Khôra delivers a well‑balanced, thematic experience.
