About the game
What you do in a play session
In *Age of Rome*, you’re a would-be emperor in 44 BC, vying for power on a board that literally rotates—provinces change hands every round! Commanding a unique hero, you’ll balance four pillars: war (with legions), politics (with votes), trade (with denarii), and religion (with followers). But beware: rivals scheme behind the scenes with cunning tokens! The game unfolds over nine rounds, each split into four dynamic phases. In the *Scheme* phase, trigger event cards and decide whether to play dirty or act diplomatically. During *Construction*, raise temples and fortresses to secure passive income. In the *Action* phase, place followers to vote, conquer regions, or even build a pantheon—yes, you can win fame for piety! Finally, the *Income* phase delivers fresh resources and rotates the modular board, shifting province values. Glory Points (GP) are your path to victory: earn them through majorities, resource sets, secret quests, or... that sneaky move no one saw coming! In the end, the player with the most GP becomes the new Caesar—but remember: in Rome, even friends might stab you in the back!

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Is there a solo mode?
Yes! Features a challenging AI that simulates rival emperors.
Best player count?
3-4 players for tight competition. At 2, it’s a more direct duel.
Too complex for beginners?
Weight 2.7/5: multiple mechanics but well-explained. Best if you’ve tried worker placement before.
Language-dependent?
Moderately—event cards and quests need translation. Fan-made translations exist.
Luck-heavy or pure strategy?
80% strategy, 20% luck. Random events and opponent schemes can swing games, but planning wins long-term.
Playtime?
60-90 mins, but with 4 experienced players, expect up to 2 hours.
