About the game
What you do in a play session
Kings of Israel transports players to the Northern Kingdom during the reign of Israel's monarchs and the looming Assyrian conquest. Instead of competing, everyone forms a single team of prophets, each with a unique power, tasked with cleansing the land of sin and idols while erecting sacred altars. Each round follows four phases: in the King's Godliness Phase, the current king determines whether the group draws a Blessing card (good king) or a Sin & Punishment card (bad king), bringing negative effects to the realm. In the Sin Increases Phase, location cards are revealed, raising sin levels in those spots and sometimes spawning new idols. Then, during the Prophets Work Phase, each player gets four action points to move, remove sin or idols, draw resource cards, build altars, make sacrifices, or aid fellow players. In expert mode, a false prophet also takes a turn after the true prophets. Finally, the End of Round Phase advances the timeline token to the next king and shifts the starting player. The goal is to construct enough altars before sin or idol cubes run out, or before Assyria destroys Israel. The game blends hand management, set collection, point‑to‑point movement, and variable player powers within a historic‑religious setting. For 2‑4 players, a game lasts about 45 minutes and its light weight (2.3/5) makes it approachable for newcomers to thematic cooperatives.
