About the game
What you do in a play session
In the gritty 1980s Sicily, a brutal clash between mafia families erupted, later known as the Great Mafia War. La Famiglia: The Great Mafia War brings that conflict to the tabletop, pitting four players into two teams of two. Each team controls two of the six available families, each with unique asymmetric abilities that shape play. The game unfolds in rounds split into a planning phase and a combat phase. During planning, players spend resources to upgrade abilities, place fighters on the board, and prepare secret orders. When combat begins, those orders are revealed and executed simultaneously, using fighters and bombs to seize regions of Sicily. The combat system is straightforward yet creates an intense psychological duel, as you never know exactly what your opponent has hidden. Area control, majority/influence, and area movement are key to dominating the map, while worker placement secures resources and triggers special powers. Variable set‑up ensures high replayability, and a playtime of about two to three hours with a moderate complexity rating (3.99/5). Fans of team‑based play, mafia themes, and asymmetric strategy will find La Famiglia packed with tension, cooperation, and fierce rivalry in a well‑crafted historic setting.
