In Raptor, Mama Raptor has ventured out of her safe zone and hidden her newly laid eggs throughout the park. Now, a team of scientists must act quickly to neutralize her and capture the baby raptors before they scatter into the forest. This is a tactical, bluffing-heavy board game designed for two players, where each takes on one side of this epic confrontation.
One player controls the clever Mama Raptor and her three offspring, attempting to escape with at least three of them or eliminate all the scientists. The other player commands five scientists, whose objective is to capture three baby raptors or sedate Mama Raptor. The board is modular, ensuring that each game has a different layout, and actions are driven by cards.
Each round, players choose a card from their hand and reveal it simultaneously. The card with the lowest value determines the main action for the player who played it. The opponent, who played the higher-valued card, gains movement or attack points equal to the difference between the two card values. This creates a super interesting dynamic of anticipation and 'reading' your opponent, where you try to guess what they will do to optimize your own moves.
Scientists have resources at their disposal such as tranquilizer darts, jeeps for quick movement along tracks, and even the ability to call for reinforcements. Mama Raptor, in turn, can use her cunning to hide in the bushes, emit terrifying roars to scare off scientists, or call her babies closer. It's a true cat-and-mouse game, with tense decisions at every card flip and a high dose of strategy.

Is Raptor a complex game for beginners?
Not really! With a weight of 2.08/5 on BGG, it's considered light to medium complexity. The rules are easy to pick up, but the strategic depth comes from card interaction and 'reading' your opponent, making it accessible for beginners yet rewarding for experienced players.
What is the average playtime for Raptor?
Games are quite fast and dynamic! Generally, you and your opponent will resolve the fate of Mama Raptor and her offspring in about 30 minutes. Perfect for fitting into any schedule.
Can I play Raptor with more than two people?
Unfortunately, no. Raptor is specifically designed as a two-player game, offering an intense and focused duel experience. There are no modes for more players.
What are the victory conditions for each side?
The Mama Raptor player wins if they manage to escape with 3 baby raptors or neutralize all the scientists. The Scientist player wins if they capture 3 baby raptors or sedate Mama Raptor. It's a constant tug-of-war!
What makes the card mechanic so interesting?
The simultaneous card selection mechanic is the heart of the game! Each round, you secretly play a card. The player who plays the lower-valued card performs that card's action, and the player who plays the higher-valued card gains action points based on the difference. This creates constant bluffing and tactical decisions about when to use your stronger or weaker cards.
Are the game components of good quality?
Yes, the components are a strong point! The game comes with detailed miniatures for Mama Raptor, her babies, and the scientists. The modular board and cards are also well-produced, contributing to the immersion.
