About the game
What you do in a play session
In Skull Queen, each player commands a pirate ship that spots a treasure‑laden vessel on the horizon. The goal is to position your crew—represented by pirate cards—onto the five slots of your personal board before the game even starts. Each slot carries a different point value, and where you place each pirate affects both your ability to win tricks and the points you can collect at the end of the round.
Before the first trick, you make a predictive bid: you declare how many tricks you will win (or lose) in each suit. This bet acts as a commitment; if you hit your target you score the points of the spaces your pirates occupy, but missing the mark costs you points. The game therefore blends betting, bluffing, and hand management, as you must balance the cards in your hand with the promises you made.
The match proceeds for as many rounds as there are players, giving everyone a turn as captain. Each round follows a classic trick‑taking flow: everyone plays a card, the highest card of the led suit takes the trick, and the winner can employ "take‑that" abilities to mess with opponents. Pirate cards have varying values and occasionally special effects that can swing a trick.
After each round, you add up the points of the spaces your pirates stand on. The player with the highest total after the final round becomes the Skull Queen, sailing away with the loot. The game is quick (about 30 minutes), supports 2–6 players, and is perfect for groups that enjoy fast decisions, light bluffing, and a splash of pirate‑themed strategy. If you like card games with bets and tricks, Skull Queen offers a breezy yet tense experience.
