About the game

What you do in a play session

The Republic of Rome: Remastered covers the 250‑year span of the Republic, from the First Punic War (264 BC) to the civil war after Julius Caesar’s assassination (44 BC). Each player leads a political faction made up of senators from Rome’s most powerful families. The goal is to amass enough influence to become the dominant force, but only if the Republic itself survives. You’ll vie for offices, economic concessions, army control, and new senators while negotiating laws, declaring wars, and keeping social order. Mismanaged wars, popular revolt, or bankruptcy cause everyone to lose. Usually the faction with the highest total influence wins, yet a single senator can rise above, become a lifelong dictator, or even spark an armed revolt to seize power. The remastered edition fixes typos, streamlines cumbersome rules, and offers a brand‑new graphic design with fresh illustrations and miniature busts for the main offices (tokens remain optional). The board is more compact, tables moved to a play aid, and new Event and Fate decks balance randomness. The rulebook is fully rewritten, packed with examples and a Playbook for easy learning. Optional rules curb luck, and solo mode plus improved bots for 2‑3 players are in development. In short, it’s a negotiation‑heavy, power‑play, semi‑cooperative simulation that blends political intrigue and military strategy while the empire hangs by a thread.
