Two counts at once

King of Tokyo has two win conditions and therefore two counts that matter: reaching 20 victory points, or being the last monster standing. A player can sit at 2 health and still win on the next point.

Health starts at 10 and is capped: healing above 10 does not stack, except with the card that raises the limit. That cap is easy to forget and distorts the count when healing comes in sequence.

A monster in Tokyo cannot heal with heart dice. That is the rule that most often forces a retroactive correction at the table, and the reason to keep each monster's state visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

4 questions
How do you win King of Tokyo?
You win by reaching 20 Victory Points (VP) or by being the last surviving monster with life points remaining.
Can I heal above 10 health?
Not in the base game, except with the specific card that raises the cap to 12. Hearts rolled above the cap are simply lost.
Can a monster in Tokyo heal?
Not with heart dice. Being in Tokyo blocks healing from dice, which is the main risk of staying there.
How many points do I need to win?
Twenty victory points. The alternative is being the last monster above zero health.
