About the game

What you do in a play session

In Vault of Dragons, you and up to three friends become street factions of Waterdeep, each with a keen nose for the legendary treasure hidden beneath the city. The goal? Be the first to locate the dragon‑guarded gold vault. Each round starts by placing followers – tiny representatives you send out to explore locations scattered across the map. Double‑sided tiles create a modular board, offering fresh routes and areas each game, from shady taverns to forgotten ruins. When a follower reaches a spot, they can gather rumors, earn gold, or uncover clues that point toward the dreaded Undermountain entrance. But it won’t be a quiet stroll: rival factions will vie for the same key spots, and the City Watch may show up to send everyone back to base. Conflicts are resolved with simple strength checks, so expect a few quick scuffles. Once you collect enough clues, you can gamble on entering the Undermountain dungeons, where danger spikes and rewards grow even larger. The game blends grid movement, area control, and light resource management, perfect for a 60‑90 minute session without heavy rulebooks. Artwork captures Waterdeep’s gritty vibe, while components – follower miniatures, double‑sided tiles, and treasure markers – give a tactile sense of urban exploration. In the end, balancing aggression, stealth, and a dash of luck is the key to walking away with the dragon’s vault.
