About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever imagined penguins trying to take over the world? In Zany Penguins, that's exactly what happens! You lead a tribe of ambitious birds aiming to seize control of unlikely places, such as jungles, deserts, and, of course, the North Pole. The goal is simple: establish the strongest influence in these regions to ensure global supremacy, but the path is filled with twists and a bit of mischief.

The game uses a system of cards numbered 1 to 9. Each player starts with their own deck, and every round is fast-paced. You draw cards, but you don't keep them all; you must pass cards to your left and right neighbors, making hand management a game of cat and mouse. The card reveal is simultaneous, meaning everyone plays at once, keeping the energy high.

The real spice comes from the special effects of the low-value cards. Played a '1'? Get ready, because in the next round, you'll be able to play two cards instead of one. Played a '2'? You've just caused chaos by blowing up all cards valued 6 to 9 played in that same round. The '3' is purely strategic: it forces everyone else to play before you in the next round, allowing you to react to their moves.

After eight rounds, it's time for the final tally. You sum up the values of the colors you dominated (where you had the highest total sum). If you won a color, you score the sum of all cards of that color remaining in your hand. If you lost, you only score the single lowest card of that color. It's a tense balance between playing high cards to control the area and hoarding high cards in your hand to score more at the end. Whoever balances this risk and remembers what opponents have already spent takes the victory!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

5 questions
Is the game complex?
Not at all! It's very accessible. The rules are simple, but the strategy of when to hoard or play high cards provides the depth.
How long does a game last?
It's super quick, lasting about 20 minutes, making it perfect as a game-night opener or a filler between heavier games.
Does it work well with 2 players?
Yes, but the game really shines with more people, as the card passing and simultaneous interaction become more chaotic.
Do I need any prior knowledge?
None. If you can count from 1 to 9 and enjoy card games, you're ready to go.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, the penguin theme is great, and the memory and addition mechanics are excellent for older children.
