About the game
In Alafair, players dive into a world of political intrigue and epic conflicts, taking on the role of one of five powerful noble houses or the cunning criminal association, Nettet. The goal is clear: conquer the Eagle Throne, the seat of power, using every tool at your disposal. Prepare for battles on land and sea, or summon legendary heroes to resolve more delicate conflicts. The key to victory lies in your ability to negotiate, bluff, and forge alliances – but, even more importantly, in knowing the right time to break them! The game unfolds over seven intense rounds. Each round begins with players strengthening their forces by acquiring valuable cards from the marketplace. Then, tension rises as houses declare war on each other, initiating the negotiation phase. This is where the true plot unfolds: threats, bribes, and persuasive deals shape alliances and betrayals. At the end of the conflict, cards are revealed, exposing who honored their promises and who chose to stab their allies in the back. Victory Points and Lights are awarded, and a new king is elected to the Eagle Throne, securing more Lights and riches. Oh, and don't forget the monsters from the Ice Tower! They will attack, and you'll have to decide whether to cooperate to defeat them or let your rivals weaken themselves alone. Victory can be achieved by accumulating Victory Points in conflicts or by collecting seven Lights, either by winning elections or leading wars. If someone reaches seven Lights, victory is instant. Otherwise, the player with the most Victory Points at the end wins. Based on the acclaimed trilogy 'Istårnet & De Syv Lys', Alafair promises a game experience rich in narrative and impactful decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many players does Alafair support and what is the average game duration?
Alafair is designed for 3 to 6 players, and a game typically lasts between 90 and 120 minutes. Get ready for a gaming session with plenty of interaction!
What is Alafair's complexity level? Is it easy to learn?
We don't have the official complexity weight yet, but with mechanics like negotiation, bluffing, and hand management, it will likely have a moderate learning curve. It's not a 'filler', but it shouldn't be overly difficult for experienced players either.
Is the game based on any literary work?
Yes! Alafair is inspired by J. Harris Hatt's award-winning trilogy 'Istårnet & De Syv Lys' (The Ice Tower & The Seven Lights), which guarantees a rich and engaging setting.
How does victory work? Are there multiple ways to win?
Absolutely! You can win by accumulating Victory Points throughout conflicts, or more dramatically, by collecting seven 'Lights' – either through elections or leading wars – which grants an instant win. Keep an eye on both paths!
Are the monsters from the Ice Tower a cooperative or competitive factor?
They are an interesting element! You can cooperate with other players to defeat them and avoid bigger problems, or you can be a strategist and let your rivals deal with the threats alone, weakening them for future conflicts. The choice is yours!
What makes Alafair different from other negotiation games?
The combination of intense negotiation with bluffing, card-play conflict resolution, king elections, and the possibility of alliances and betrayals each round, all within a book-based fantasy universe, creates a unique and twist-filled experience.
