Alright, folks! Get ready to dive into the chaos of Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game, a faithful adaptation of Red Hook's acclaimed video game. Here, ruin has come to your family, and the mission is clear: cleanse a manor and its surroundings of all manner of evil, from hordes of undead to cosmic abominations that would turn your stomach. And, of course, the ultimate goal is to root out evil itself from the darkest dungeon.
This is a fully cooperative dungeon crawler where you take on the role of brave adventurers, but let's be honest, very human ones. This means that the madness and pain inflicted by the twisted denizens of the dungeons are not just a physical threat, but a mental one. Death is a possibility, but being driven to utter madness is an even worse fate, leaving your heroes beyond all help! The game unfolds in an epic campaign of 11 missions. To finally face the Darkest Dungeon, you'll need to complete three missions per threat level and defeat the bosses guarding the path. Only then, strengthened, can you confront the ultimate horrors and, perhaps, emerge victorious by dispatching the source of all evil.
Before each mission, each hero chooses three out of seven available skills (and can unlock more by leveling up). In each room, choosing the right stance is crucial to resolving conflicts. On each turn, you choose two actions: move, interact with the environment, change your stance, or use a skill (if your current stance allows). Triumph over encounters, resist rampant madness, and emerge victorious before throwing yourselves into another battle. Between missions, return to the hamlet to recover from the physical and mental trauma. Restoring the hamlet to its former glory not only helps heal your heroes but also rewards them on the journey to fulfill the ultimate goal. It's a tense, strategic adventure full of tough decisions!
