About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to dive into one of the most iconic science-fiction universes ever created! Dune: A Game of Conquest and Diplomacy is the modern evolution of a legendary classic, taking all that DNA of tension and political intrigue and polishing the rules for a smoother experience. You'll take command of one of the four great powers—House Atreides, House Harkonnen, the Fremen, or the Imperium—in a frantic struggle for control of the spice (melange), the most coveted resource in the cosmos, found only in the relentless deserts of Arrakis.
The game is played in rounds that blend pure strategy with a touch of luck. It all starts with the Spice phase, where fate decides where the melange appears or if the dreaded Sandworm will devastate the regions. Then, you manage your battle cards and can spend your spice in the market to buy tactical advantages that can flip the game. The most tense part happens during the shipping and movement phase, where you position your forces to seize strongholds and crush the competition.
Victory isn't just about brute force. The game lasts between 3 to 5 rounds, and starting from the third, anyone who manages to occupy three strongholds secures an immediate win. If no one achieves this by the end of the fifth round, the player with the most spice wins (keeping in mind that each controlled stronghold provides a generous bonus of 5 spice units). With the addition of a dedicated two-player mode, the game has become much more versatile, allowing both wargame veterans and casual players to feel the pressure of ruling the most dangerous planet in the universe. Do you have the diplomatic skill to betray your allies or the strength to dominate the sands?

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Is the game too complex for people who don't like wargames?
It's more accessible than the 1979 original, but still requires focus. If you enjoy strategy, you'll pick it up quickly!
How long does a game last?
Usually between 20 and 60 minutes, which is quite fast for a conquest game.
Does it work well with just two players?
Yes! The new two-player mode was specifically designed to make the experience dynamic and competitive.
Do I need to have read the Dune books to play?
It's not mandatory, but it helps a lot with immersion. The game explains the dynamics of the spice and the houses during play.
What is the main way to win?
Either by controlling 3 strongholds from the 3rd round onwards, or by ending the 5th round with the most spice.
