About the game
What you do in a play session
High Season: Grand Hotel Roll & Write puts you in charge of Vienna's most fashionable hotel during the bustling high season. Over seven rounds, each player controls two boards: a hotel floor plan and a staff board, each offering eight distinct options. At the start of a round, you roll a number of dice equal to the player count and place them on six numbered spaces (1‑6) on the action board. On your turn you draft one die and, based on how many dice share that space (its "strength"), you perform the associated action. Options include preparing rooms (paying each room's cost), occupying a prepared room (gaining a one‑time bonus), advancing on the emperor track (earning rewards at milestones), earning krone – the game’s currency – or hiring staff members (granting permanent, one‑time, or end‑game scoring effects).
Strategic depth comes from matching die strength with the layout of your rooms and the staff you can afford. Being the first to fill an entire row or column nets exclusive bonus points that later players can’t claim. Completing contiguous color groups also gives immediate rewards: points for blue, krone for red, or steps on the emperor track for yellow. After the seventh round, players total points from occupied rooms, staff bonuses, and emperor track achievements, though neglecting the emperor can subtract points. With a light weight (2.5/5), a playing time of 45‑90 minutes, and support for 2‑4 players, the game suits fans of quick decision‑making, resource management, and a dash of historic flair. If you love roll‑and‑write games with multiple scoring paths and an elegant theme, High Season delivers a smooth, choice‑rich experience.
