Get ready to build the city of your dreams in San Juan, a card game that takes the essence of the classic Puerto Rico and distills it into a faster, card-focused experience! Here, you won't be dealing with colonists or ships, but rather a deck of 110 cards that are the heart of everything. These cards can be production buildings, like indigo, sugar, tobacco, coffee farms, and even silver mines, or the valuable 'violet' buildings, which grant special powers and extra victory points. The trick is that every card in your hand has a dual function: it can be a building to construct, or it can be used as money to pay for another building. And when you produce goods, cards from the deck become the goods themselves, placed face-down. Keep an eye on your hand, as there's a seven-card limit per round!
In each round, a player chooses one of the available roles, activating an action that usually benefits everyone. But the player who picks the role gains a special privilege, such as producing more goods or building more cheaply. The big twist is that goods production and trading are limited to one card per phase, and, unlike its bigger brother, you can't block sales. Victory points are earned exclusively by constructing buildings, and the game ends as soon as someone manages to erect twelve constructions. It's a game that challenges you to plan your constructions well and manage your cards wisely to become the master builder of San Juan!
