About the game
What you do in a play session
You will relive the initial German Panzer rush, the formation of large pockets of Soviet resistance, and desperate counterattacks. The game system is asymmetrical, reflecting Soviet difficulties in coordinating their forces against the German war machine. Detailed air combat rules and weather conditions integrate with ground combat, while a 'non-op' Soviet HQ system simulates the rigid yet fragile Soviet command structure. The game features an incredibly detailed Order of Battle, including artillery, engineering units, and armored trains.
With eight scenarios, from shorter introductions to the full campaign, you can adjust the level of involvement and complexity. Hitler's decision to divert forces south and north, relieving pressure on the Soviets, is a crucial point of the campaign that you can explore. Did this decision cost the Germans the war? Play and find out for yourself in this dense and historically immersive wargame, part of GMT's acclaimed 'East Front' series.
